Power Source
The Diesel Men’s Red Silicone Strap 46mm watch uses a three-hand quartz movement as its power source.
The Good
The three-hand quartz movement is the perfect power source for this watch, as the watch itself is simple and does note require any extra complications — the dial features an hour and minute hand that are stainless steel in color and skeletonized with luminous fill; and has a seconds hand that is red tipped three-quarters of the way down the thin hand.
This red accent is followed with a red “Diesel” logo at 3 o’clock and the bold, large red “9” Arabic numeral at 9 o’clock. The rest of the hour indices are black applied stick indexes at the hour marks. This shiny black accent against the gunmetal grey of the dial is extremely attractive and reminiscent of a race car style color palate.
Along with the off-set two-texture dial feature are white markings around the entire dial rim as well as race-markings around the center of the dial from 12 to 6 o’clock.
The strap is made of silicone and the watch is water resistant up to 50 meters (165 feet) — this translates to 5 BAR (5 ATM).
The sporty look is very tasteful, masculine, and doesn’t overdo it on the watch face. You can interchange the silicone strap later on if you wish and the design will still look perfect no matter what color strap you put on it.
The knurled texture that runs around the edge/side of the gunmetal stainless steel case matches the knurled texture around the crown. Most watches use the sides of the bezel to place texture, but Diesel does so around the case edging, which makes it larger and more attractive. The bezel is actually beveled down to the case, which gives it a sleek overall look.
The Bad
While not negative per se, the watch is pretty basic in terms of timekeeping — it would have benefitted from a calendar date window or another complication related to racing to complete the design — however, that being said, the watch design is magnificent.
Functionality
The functionality is great for such a simple piece. The design is very bold and energetic but functionally, the watch only needs to keep the hour, minute, and second. There are no additional complications. The quartz movement is of great quality and is precise.
What makes this watch impressive is its functionality in terms of weather-resistance and durability. The brushed gunmetal stainless steel isn’t just awesome to look at, but it’s pretty durable too. The solid case backing and the mineral glass means that Diesel was able to make the case water resistant to 50 meters / 165 feet (that’s 5 BAR / 5 ATM). This is pretty respectable and a great rating for a watch that is intended to be sporty.
One of the main features that you cannot miss on this watch is the red, silicone strap, which is not just a design feature but a functional material that is water resistant and can be worn around water, heat, cold, and won’t stain or be ruined by sweat.
Highlights
The highlights of this Diesel men’s watch is definitely in its aesthetic design. The 46mm round case is dark in color with a brushed finish. With a matching two-texture dial and red accents that match the strap color, the design is centered around a graduated color scheme inspired by racing and adventure.
The Gunmetal dial is matte in color except for around the 9 o’clock position where there is a partial diamond texture in grey.
