Power Source
The power source for this MVMT Desert timepiece is a Japanese made 5-Hand Miyoga Dual Time battery powered movement. This is a very popular movement and is well-respected for its precision and durability.
The Good
The design of this piece is on par with the look of the outdoorsman. The 42mm round case is made of matte black stainless steel that perfectly complements the matte black dial face. The face itself is incredibly beautiful, masculine, and embodies the soul of the outdoorsman.
Three main dial hands keep the time and all are Desert Tan in color, which look absolutely stunning against the matte black of the dial. There are round second markings along the outer rim of the dial, but no numerals take up room on this minimalistic analog display.
A simple calendar window is located at the 3 o’clock position, opposite of the stainless steel crown that lies on the outside of the case. Two push buttons can also be found on this side, as the 2 subdials upon the face of this Voyager Series timepiece can be set with ease.
The subdials are located vertically along the dial at the 12 and 6 o’clock positions and are the same Desert Tan as the main dial hands and the Desert Tan nylon NATO strap. These subdials are Dual Time and feature black markings, Arabic numerals, and a single black hand on each to keep the time. This pulls in the entire “Desert” look of this piece quite well, as the matte black dial makes for the perfect unassuming backdrop for this outdoor-centric timepiece.
Another great aspect of this watch is that you can purchase interchangeable straps for this Voyager series timepiece. From other nylon straps to metal bracelets, you can change the strap to suit your destination.

The Bad
This watch is certainly perfect for men of the outdoors, however, it does seem to be missing one element that would otherwise make it perfect. The Desert Tan dial hands are absolutely perfect, as are the minimalist round markings for the hour and minute around the dial rim, but luminous capabilities seem to be lacking.
For an outdoorsman, being able to tell time during the night should be a given.
Highlights
The highlight of this timepiece simply has to be the design. The fact that MVMT created a real outdoorsman watch that is not chunky, rugged looking in appearance, but instead has a sleek and durable look, is wonderful.
The matte black stainless steel casing and the matte black dial with Desert Tan subdials, dial hands, and nylon NATO strap makes this design perfect for the explorer. The Desert Tan dial hands make for an easy to read analog display, despite the lack of numerals.
At each hour is a small circle that shines a bit so you can easily orient the Desert Tan hands to tell the time against the black dial. The Dual Time Zone subdials are easily read as they are set in Desert Tan as well, and set using the push buttons on the right of the case.
As opposed to being overwhelming, the MVMT Desert from the Voyager Series is a great example of minimalism, functionality, and a masculine outdoorsman design that is simplistically stunning.
Functionality
From the hardened mineral crystal protecting the dial to the tough, stainless steel construction, and the nylon NATO strap, this 42mm timepiece is quite functional and excellent for outdoor use.
The NATO strap can be changed out with different colors and materials from other nylon straps or metal bracelets in the Voyager series. The matte black stainless steel is tough and is water resistant to 10 ATM (147 PSI).
The matte black of the dial is more than just an excellent design feature — it is a practical one. When in the great outdoors, reflections off of a dial face can obscure the time and make it useless for your purposes. The matte black of the dial and the easy to see Desert Tan subdials are easily seen through the hardened mineral crystal.
In addition, the three main hour, minute, and second hands are spectacular and extremely easy to read at a glance, as they are also Desert Tan in color and against the backdrop of the black dial, are easy to see in any light.
The functionality does not end there. The battery is a Japanese made 5-Hand Miyota which is well known for its reliability over time and its precision. Along with the 10 ATM water resistance, hardened crystal, and the stainless steel construction, this is a true outdoorsman watch that does not have to look rugged to be so.
The NATO nylon straps can be interchanged with other “Voyager” straps, which is perfect for changing up your style. These nylon straps are incredibly strong and make wearing this watch a pleasure.
